One of the most important parts of a coaching engagement is developing clear, achievable goals. The goal-setting feature allows coaches and clients to collaborate, track progress, and celebrate achievements. This article walks you through creating goals, adjusting visibility, and managing them throughout the engagement.

Note: Creating goals is a collaborative process between coaches and clients.

Creating a New Goal

STEP 1: Create a New Goal

To create a new goal, click Goals, then select Create a New Goal.

STEP 2: Fill Out the Goal Information

On the Create a Goal page, you’ll see the four main components of a goal. Below is a description of each section.

Description

State the goal clearly and explicitly. Whatever you enter here will appear as the goal title in your Goals tab.

Actions

List the specific steps that will help move toward the goal. Include dates or milestones if helpful for accountability.

Definition of Success

Describe what it will look like when the goal is successfully achieved. Be as specific as possible so progress is easy to recognize.

Impact

Explain who or what will be affected when the goal is reached: coworkers, managers, the team, the organization, or even personal life. Highlight what will improve or change as a result.

Coaching Topics

You may select coaching topics related to the goal. These topics may be shared with program sponsors, but only in an aggregated, anonymous form when at least three individuals have selected the same topic.

Goal Confidentiality and Visibility

Depending on your program’s settings, every new goal may default to either Confidential or Visible.

  • Confidential goals can only be viewed by the client and the coach.

  • Visible goals can be viewed by additional program stakeholders with program-level permissions.

When creating a goal, you will see the current visibility setting. You can change a goal’s visibility at any time by editing the goal.

Note: Programs may allow or restrict sponsors from viewing Visible goals.

Mark Complete, Edit, or Delete

To mark a goal complete, edit it, or delete it, select the three dots next to the goal.

  • When a goal is marked Complete, it will turn gray.

  • You can also update visibility settings here by selecting Edit Goal.
